Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has revealed he was close to joining Aston Villa but suffered an injury that prevented the move from happening.
A few months before the Senegal international‘s move to Stamford Bridge, he is set to join his former boss Villarreal, but unfortunately suffered an injury at the time, forcing the move to be scrapped at the last minute.
“When Unai left, he wanted me to go to Aston Villa but I had an injury,” Jackson said. “I wanted to go because there was a new coach coming in. I had to go but I had a little bit of a hamstring injury.”
“We went there, they did a medical and said I have to rest for another month and they want me now. If they want me in one week, two weeks, I’m not ready, so they canceled the transfer and I went back to the club.”
“When I went back, I was really angry. Not because I didn’t sign the contract, but because when we were on the plane, I told my friends, ‘Don’t worry, good things are coming. That’s life.'”
“Then I started training more to play against Villarreal – when I came back I think I scored 12 goals in two months.”
